2026 Program Dates: Monday, June 15 – Friday, July 24
Morning Session: Monday through Friday, 9 am – 12 pm Afternoon Session: Monday through Friday, 1 pm – 4 pm
HMRI proudly supports Pasadena Unified School District high school students by providing STEM education opportunities for six weeks during the summer. Rising juniors and seniors are eligible to apply to either the morning or afternoon session. Students explore new topics each week under the guidance of enthusiastic mentors and science teachers, conduct independent research projects, and earn CPR certifications from the American Heart Association. Students leave this hands-on experience confident in their new laboratory skills and inspired by exposure to dynamic STEM careers.
HMRI High School STEM Program Curriculum:
- Week 1: Research methods, instrumentation, and safety protocols
- Week 2: Anatomy of the brain, heart and lungs
- Week 3: Pathology and Radiology
- Week 4: Genetics
- Week 5: Bioinformatics and Environmental Science
- Week 6: Symposium to present research projects
Eligibility for Summer 2026
- Applicants must be rising juniors or seniors in a Pasadena Unified School District high school and demonstrate academic rigor in STEM courses.
- Students are required to commit to the entire six-week program.
- Monday through Friday, and select either the morning (9 am—12 pm) or afternoon (1 pm—4 pm) session.
