Sergii Romanenko
Dr. Sergii Romanenko received his PhD in biophysics from the International Center of Molecular Physiology in Kiev, Ukraine, working under world-renowned neurophysiologist, Prof. Platon Kostyuk. He has considerable experience in working with several classes of thermo-sensitive and voltage-sensitive channels, and is proficient in multiple bio-preparations, such as the isolated spinal cord and the dorsal root ganglion. He was chosen to be the 2011 Boswell Fellow from a large pool of applicants based on his experience in extracellular and intracellular electrophysiology, including pharmacological testing with channel agonists and antagonists. In addition, he has considerable knowledge in electromagnetics and electrical engineering.
As a Boswell Fellow, he has a joint appointment at Caltech and HMRI. At Caltech, his mentor is Dr. Peter Siegel, working at the Millimeter Wave laboratory. At HMRI, his mentor is Dr. Victor Pikov, working at the Neural Engineering Program. Dr. Romanenko is performing a range of studies evaluating the effects of millimeter waves on neuronal activity and their underlying mechanisms. The ultimate goal of this project is to develop a non-invasive neuromodulation approach for treatment of neurological disorders.
