Myron Tong

Myron Tong established HMRI’s Liver Center which is the country’s leading liver cancer treatment center in 2004.  He is involved in the identification of specific liver cancer antigens for use in diagnosis and in developing treatment plans.  He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of California, Berkley and MD degree from the University of California, San Francisco.  He completed his fellowship in hepatology at Los Angeles County – University of Southern California Health Center.

Dr. Tong served as a naval medical officer in Vietman, and was attached to the U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit in Danang, where he was involved in studies of war-related wounds and tropical diseases.

A world-leading hepatologist, Dr. Tong has specialized in liver disease research for more than 25 years, with a distinguished record of service to the community.  The first to link HBV infection with liver cancer, Dr. Tong is one of the leading clinical investigators on HBV and liver diseases in Asians in the U.S. and Asia.  Dr. Tong’s research efforts include antiviral treatment of patients with hepatitis B and C, and hs is involved in the treatment of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.
