Martin Han

Martin Han, Ph.D., is a biomedical engineer and staff scientist at the Neural Engineering Program at the Huntington Medical Research Institutes. He joined HMRI in the summer of 2003, after completing his doctoral graduate study in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA. Both of his previous degrees, master in science and bachelor in science, are from Electrical Engineering, from USC and the University of Hawaii at Manoa in Honolulu, HI, in 2000 and 1996, respectively.

His Ph.D. thesis focused on the development of planar microelectrode arrays for recording and stimulation in hippocampal tissue slices in the development of cognitive prosthesis. Dr. Han’s current research interests include development of silicon- and biodegradable polymer-based chronically-implantable microelectrode arrays using bio-MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical-System) technology for treatment of neurological disorders such as profound hearing loss, Parkinson’s disease and spinal cord injury. He is a principal investigator of two NIH grants and a Department of Defense grant, and co-investigator to three NIH grants.

Dr. Han is a member of the Eta Kappa Nu, IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, Biomedical Engineering Society, Society for Neuroscience, and American Association for the Advancement of Science.
