Brian Ross

In 2001, Dr. Ross became Acting Director of Cardiac MRI at HMRI. With the guidance of Huntington Hospital cardiologists Dr. Richard J Bing and Dr. Fernando Roth as well as Dr. Gerald Pohost, Head of Cardiovascular Medicine at USC Keck School of Medicine, and Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Robbin Cohen, HMRI have now performed more than 150 diagnostic Cardiac MRI (CVMR) examinations free of charge. CVMR is now poised to take its place alongside existing tech imaging procedures to improve outcomes for patients with heart disorders.

Brian Ross trained in medicine and biochemistry at the Universities of Oxford and London, and was lecturer in medicine at both Oxford and Harvard Universities. He has additional qualifications in General and Cardiac Surgery and in Chemical Pathology from the Royal Colleges in the UK.

Dr. Ross became interested in Magnetic Resonance and MRI in Oxford, where he lead the medical team which carried out the first human diagnosis with MRS in 1981. Since coming to HMRI 15 years ago, Dr. Ross has established HMRI as the premier center for neurological diagnosis by means of MRS, publishing 200 research papers and the leading textbook in the field. In 1995, Dr. Ross received the Gold Medal of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. In addition to his appointment at HMRI, Dr. Ross is Visiting Associate, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, California Institute of Technology and Professor of Clinical Medicine, University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine.
