The Community Prostate Network (CPN)
is a prostate cancer information program designed to provide an important link between individuals with prostate cancer and ongoing clinical trials in the San Gabriel Valley area.

Today more than ever before, individuals are better informed about diseases that personally affect them due to increasing access to a greater number of information sources. As a result of this access, patients have also become more personally involved in their treatment decisions and in their decisions to participate in clinical trials. Unfortunately, available information about clinical trials is usually on national research studies that may be conducted far away.

On the other hand, researchers conducting clinical trials cannot progress without available volunteers. They are often delayed because of a lack of available volunteers in their area therefore, slowing their research progress.

By acquiring information from individuals with prostate cancer living in the San Gabriel Valley area and storing it in a secure database, CPN will be able to accumulate a pool of willing volunteers. These volunteers can then be matched to an appropriate clinical trial or to a possible future research study in their area as needed. Clinical researchers in need of volunteers can contact CPN who in turn, would be able to refer qualified volunteers that are immediately available for the research study.

The following is a list of some of the current clinical trials available for enrollment.

JPR.7, A Phase III Randomized Trial Comparing Intermittent Versus Continuous Androgen Suppression for Patients with PSA Progression in the clinical Absence of Distant Metastases Following Radiotherapy for Prostate Cancer.

SWOG 9346, Intermittent Androgen Deprivation in Patients with Stage D2 Prostate Cancer, Phase III.

SWOG 9205, Central Prostate Cancer Serum Repository, companion to 9346, 9921 and 9916.

RTOG 96-01, A Phase III Trial of Radiation Therapy with or without Casodex in Patients with PSA Elevation Following Radical Prostatectomy for pT3 NO Carcinoma of the Prostate.
