World Specialists Learn High-Tech Brain Scanning at HMRI

Radiologists, technicians, spectroscopists, physicians and other health care professionals from around the world gathered Friday, July 14  in Pasadena for a four-day training course at the Huntington Medical Research Institutes (HMRI). The intensive training in clinical Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) was presented by Dr. Brian Ross and the laboratory staff, who are leaders in this revolutionary new technology.

Dr. Richard Bing Receives Honorary Degree from Johns Hopkins

Dr. Richard J. Bing of Pasadena's Huntington Medical Research Institutes (HMRI) was recognized with an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters at May 25 commencement exercises of The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Norris Foundation Boosts Molecular Neurology Research

Dr. Michael Harrington and colleagues will use a $100,000 donation from the Norris Foundation to study the molecular composition of spinal fluid in healthy persons and those with known neurological diseases, in order to identify changes that occur in these diseases and develop individual drug therapies.

NASA Provides Math Support for Data Analysis

HMRI's Michael Harrington, M.D., and California State University/Northridge mathematics professor Carol Shubin, Ph.D., were awarded a four-year grant from NASA for a joint project involving HMRI, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and CSUN.  The grant will pay $374,000 - $416,000 per year to employ part-time about 25 undergraduate students from Cal State University Northridge to provide data analysis in research projects by HMRI and NASA.

HMRI Symposium Heralds New Cardiac MRI Techniques

Drs. William Bradley, Ross Eto and others previewed the advanced technology of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging at a symposium honoring HMRI's Dr. Richard Bing.  Cardiac MRI allows easier diagnosis of diseases of the heart and blood vessels.
